Our first babies of the year - Our ocellated skink mum gave birth to seven little babies today! Discovered by Dan who was promptly on hand to take some photos! (thanks for the photos Dan!).
Ocellated skinks are also known as barrel or eyed skinks. They are a European protected species awarded protection under the European protected species act, which basically means it is an offence to own them unless you can prove they are captive bred and not wild caught specimens. So anyone purchasing these will go away with a little bit extra paperwork thanks to this new legislation!
They are great little skinks that are sand swimmers so are quite elusive but can be seen basking under a spotlight and UV occasionally. The skinks are insectivorous but will also enjoy eating the jelly from dog food as an occasional treat.
pop in and see the first of this years captive breeding programmes offspring!
