Okay, I asked advice on this subject before.

3 foot viv (vivexotic 36) 150w ceramic heater with pulse proportional thermostat.

Temp is just reaching 90 or so, and cool end is 80 'ish, so temps are not bad, however, the 150w ceramic heater is running full on to achieve that. (the light on the thermostat does not flash) and apart from burning a lot of electricity the top of the viv is MUCH too hot, I think it is a safety hazard, the chipboard is distorting due to the heat.


I do not think we have a shortage of heat I think we are having problems getting the heat where we want it. We have a heat guard which is square white metal mesh.

Is it because we have no reflector?

We have a reflector but it won't fit in the heat shield and we have not seen a heatshield to fit the reflector!

AS I say help is needed, how do we get this temperature properly under control?

Don't be afraid to sound like advertising or pushing products, that is what I want, give me product specific recommendations.

Ok, so just got in from work And heres the (hopefully) solution, as you see its a metal reflector that fits your two bits of kit perfectly, it should act as a baffle and push the heat that is rising off of the back of the ceramic heat emitter downwards or at least prevent it from rising straight up and over heating the vivarium roof.

Thanks Neil, looks like it could be the answer, lets see how it goes, it certainly is designed to go with the correct light fitting and heat shield.

Part reflector, part my fault in locating the thermostat sensor.

The reflector has reduced the rising heat that was cooking the cabinet!

I was under the impression that it was the very tip of the thermostat sensor that did the sensing, so I drilled a hole and just poked the end in. I poked it in another couple of inches and the thermostat light went out!

I have also installed a proper remote probe digital thermometer and I am now seeing 34C + or - 0.5C, which is 93F and the cool end is reading 80F, with a drop both ends of about 10F at night.

And the top of the viv above the heater is pleasantly warm rather than burning hot!

So that looks good to me.
